Hi, I'm Melissa Urwin, owner of Urwin Interiors . Welcome to It's All in the Details! I am excited to share with you all of my adventures in this crazy design world. I will be sharing the good the bad and the ugly of being a business owner and trying to make a name for myself. I will show you new projects, old projects, and everything in between.
That's me down there with the owl eyes and my family, one thing I have learned in this business is to never take yourself too seriously... So let's get started.
The Start
Being in the business for over 15 years, I have gotten to work on incredible projects not only in the interior design world but also in the event world. I went to a two-year interior design program because I have always done much better in the field, I have always learned better from doing, not sitting.
For a long time I couldn't decide which field I wanted to fully immerse myself in (FYI.... i still cant) , and why should I have to choose? I should be able to do both if I want... or does not fully-committing yourself to one thing stop you from going anywhere? Maybe I am on to something with that last statement.... we'll save that for another post.
Now where was I... I started in commercial design and moved onto residential design (I'm still there) but throughout the years (and needing a second job) I have worked in the event design industry. However over the last few months I have really just enjoyed being in the event design world. And that seems to be where all of my work is coming from lately.... I compare the two (interior & event design) like this. Event design feels pretty much like a great one night stand—highly addictive might I add. Maybe it could be a 1 year-stand and depending on what the event is they will pop back in to your life every few months or years. Agreed? But interior design feels like an actual relationship, and this relationship could go on for years with no end in sight. Don't get me wrong it could be a wonderful relationship but anyone who has been in a long term relationship knows exactly what I am saying... Holler of you hear me! (please hear that in Tupac's voice)
So here we are, ending out 2019 in 4 months and I have decided on a few things. I LOVE DESIGN, and I love my 15 year LONGggggggg relationship with interior design and I love my one night stands with event design and I am just not ready to give one up... So for now I am going to do both and see where this ride takes me. I will take my knowledge from the interior design world and use it in the event world and vise versa.
Creating More Amazing Experiences here I come.....
Like I said above, I have been very lucky to have been involved in all of the projects that I have worked on, even the ones that didn't turn out the way I thought they would (those are called lessons... ). I'm excited to take this next step of my journey and have you all come all from the ride!
Join me in my next event highlights!
